How to connect your PayPal account to PromoTix

(Last Updated 8/11/25)

PromoTix supports PayPal as an option for payment processing. In order to sell paid tickets on PromoTix, you will need to connect a supported payment processor (like PayPal) to your events. All revenue from ticket sales will be deposited directly into your PayPal account.

For the latest information on PayPal's platform, payout schedules, and associated fees, please visit their website here.

1. Click on the "PayPal payments" button

NOTE: only PayPal business accounts are supported at this time. If you attempt to connect a personal account, you will be given the option to upgrade your personal account to a business account during the connection process.

If you are editing an existing PromoTix event, you can find this button on the "Payment" tap in the drawer on the left side of the screen:

If the email address you enter isn't already associated with a PayPal account, you will automatically be guided through the account creation process.

Once your account has been created and you have given authorization, you will be automatically redirected back to PromoTix, and PromoTix will attempt to connect your PayPal account to your event:

3. Verify your PayPal connection

To verify that your PayPal account has been connected successfully, check to see if the "Connected to PayPal" text is shown along with a green checkbox.  If so, this means that your PayPal account has been successfully connected to your event.

TIP: once your PayPal account has been connected, you may be able to activate additional payment methods depending on your PayPal account settings. Simply check the boxes below on PromoTix:

  1. Venmo
  2. Pay Later
  3. Apple Pay
  4. Google Pay

If your PayPal account is NOT connected successfully, here are some common errors that will display at the top of the screen when you are redirected back to PromoTix:

  1. "Please onboard with a merchant account that has the same currency as the event."
  2. "Your PayPal account has been limited. Please log in to your PayPal account and check your inbox for an email from PayPal detailing the next steps to resolve this limitation."
  3. "Your email address is not verified. Please log in to your PayPal account to verify your email before accepting payments."

If you require assistance with any of the above errors, please contact PayPal's customer support team.

Once your PayPal account has been connected successfully, click on the "Save & continue" button to save your changes.

That's it! Once you are ready, you can now publish your event.

4. Publish your event and test the checkout process

Before you share your new event with world, it's important to test your checkout process, as some issues can occur even if your PayPal account has been connected successfully.

To test your event's checkout process:

  1. View your public event page
  2. Click on the "Buy tickets" button
  3. Add any item to the cart, and then proceed through the checkout process
  4. On the final step that asks for payment, click on the "Debit or Credit card" button.
  5. Ensure that the card number, expiration date, and CVV fields are all displayed for customers to enter in their card information.

NOTE: if the checkout test fails, this means that PayPal has denied at least one capability in your account which is required in order to sell tickets on PromoTix. Please contact PayPal's customer support team,  and ask them to check if the "PPCP_CUSTOM" capability is activated in your PayPal account.

TIP: to avoid having to reconnect your PayPal account every time you create a new event, clone a pre-existing event that already has your PayPal account connected.
